A northern bench city at the foot of Ben Lomond
The story of Pleasant View
Pleasant View occupies Weber County’s northern bench where neighborhoods rise from former farm ground toward the slopes below Ben Lomond. Its broad views and foothill setting explain the name, while its growth tells the larger story of northern Weber County’s change from agriculture to residential city.
Settlement began in 1851. The area was first called West End and Stringtown, reflecting its location and the line of homes that developed along the road.
Wilford Cragun suggested Pleasant View as a name suited to the setting. The name became official in 1882, and the community incorporated as a city in 1945.
Farms and orchards once dominated the bench. Twentieth- and twenty-first-century housing gradually climbed the hillside and filled the lower ground, leaving a city where remnants of agricultural land sit beside new neighborhoods and regional road connections.
