A new municipality with old community names and a rural valley identity
The story of Ogden Valley City
Ogden Valley City is Weber County’s newest municipality. It spans much of the upper Ogden Valley around Pineview Reservoir and brings Eden, Liberty, Nordic Valley, working farms, mountain neighborhoods, and major recreation corridors under one city government. Huntsville remains a separate incorporated town.
Northwest Shoshone and Ute people used the valley long before Euro-American settlement. Fur traders entered during the early nineteenth century, and farming and ranching settlements followed in the 1850s and 1860s. Agriculture, irrigation, mountain passes, and winter isolation shaped the communities that became Eden, Liberty, and Huntsville.
Pineview Reservoir and the growth of skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, and biking changed the valley economy without eliminating its agricultural landscape. Resort access and new housing brought steady development pressure alongside concern for farms, viewsheds, dark skies, wildlife, and open space.
Voters approved incorporation in 2024, elected the first city government in 2025, and Ogden Valley City incorporated in December 2025. The municipality is new, but the places within it are not. Eden, Liberty, and Nordic Valley remain useful community identities even though they are not separate city governments.
A careful community snapshot
- Incorporated
- 2025 municipal operations began in 2026
- Approximate area
- 64 sq mi official city description
- Average density
- 1 per 5.3 acres official city description

The city was created after the 2020–2024 American Community Survey geography was defined. The Census Bureau does not yet publish a citywide population, age, or income profile for the new municipal boundary. Separate Eden and Liberty CDP figures describe older statistical areas, not the whole city.
What shapes the community today
The city’s defining question is how to manage growth without erasing the rural and environmental qualities that drew people to the valley. Pineview Reservoir, three nearby ski areas, North Fork Park, farms, wildlife habitat, and mountain gateways make recreation and land-use decisions inseparable from local identity.
