Two farming communities joined along the Weber River
The story of Marriott-Slaterville
Marriott-Slaterville preserves two historic community names in one city. It occupies low-lying ground west of Ogden where farms, wetlands, the Weber River, rail and highway corridors, industry, and dispersed residential areas create a landscape unlike the denser cities nearby.
Marriott and Slaterville developed as separate agricultural settlements in the 1850s. Irrigation, livestock, field crops, family farms, and connections to Ogden shaped both communities for generations.
The two places remained distinct local identities even as development and regional infrastructure brought them closer together. Their historic sites, family records, and annual city histories are preserved through the city historian and the Marriott-Slaterville collection at Weber State University.
Residents incorporated the combined municipality in 1999. Keeping both names acknowledged the separate histories while creating one city government for planning, roads, parks, public safety, and other local services.

What shapes the community today
Marriott-Slaterville remains unusually open and varied for a city next to Ogden. Working land, older homes, newer development, business and industrial areas, river habitat, and major transportation routes coexist within a small population spread across a broad area.
